Page Password Gate
Use the Password Gate section when a page should only open after a shopper enters a shared password. It works well for previews, private launches, and simple invitation-only pages.
warning
This feature hides the page from normal storefront visitors, but it is not server-side security. Do not use it for sensitive customer information or private pricing. Use Shopify customer accounts, Shopify B2B, or another authenticated solution for that content.
Set up a protected page
- Go to Online Store → Themes → Customize.
- Open the page template you want to protect. Use a separate template if only some pages should be protected.
- Select Add section → Password Gate.
- Enter the shared Password. The page is only locked when this field has a value.
- Add a heading and any short instructions you want shoppers to see.
- Adjust the form labels, logo, color scheme, and optional exit link.
- Save and test the page in a private browser window.
Helpful settings
- Disable in theme editor keeps the page editable in the Theme Editor while still protecting the live storefront.
- Logo uses the main theme logo when no separate image is selected.
- Exit link defaults to the storefront home page when left empty.
- Changing the password means shoppers must enter the new password the next time they visit the protected page.
Before publishing
- Test both a correct and incorrect password.
- Confirm the exit link goes where you expect.
- Test on desktop and mobile.
- Make sure the protected page does not contain information that requires true account-based security.
